Seems Luke Donald might need to invest in another freezer.
The former world No. 1 defended his title Sunday at the Japan Tour’s Dunlop Phoenix, winning by six shots over Hyung-Sung Kim and capturing his first title in 12 months. Over the final three days, he carded rounds of 66-65-66.
Yes, it was an important win for Donald. He has dipped all the way to No. 17 in the Official World Ranking. It was his first victory since switching to a new long-game coach, Chuck Cook, earlier this fall and helped build off the momentum of a top-5 finish in Dubai. He is now the first player to go back-to-back in Japan since Tiger Woods (2004-05).
But some wins are tastier than others, and the Dunlop might feature the most delicious prize in all of golf.
Along with a first-place check of $400,000, Donald also will receive about $80,000 – or 200 pounds – of high-end Miyazaki beef, which he described earlier this season as the “best beef I’ve ever had.”
