World Challenge to move to Isleworth in 2014

 
 
       
 

One of the final golf tournaments of the calendar year is heading across the country in 2014.

After 15 years on the West Coast, the World Challenge will be played Dec. 4-7 at Isleworth Country Club in Orlando, Fla., next year. The announcement was made Friday by the Tiger Woods Foundation, which operates the event.

Isleworth is the former home of Woods, who now lives in Jupiter, Fla., and the course has shared hosting duties for the annual Tavistock Cup with nearby Lake Nona Golf and Country Club since 2004. As part of the changes, tournament officials confirmed to GolfChannel.com that the Tavistock Cup will no longer be played.

"We have a longstanding relationship with Tavistock Group and my friend, Joe Lewis, and I am thrilled to see it grow in support of our Foundations," Woods said as part of the release. "We've enjoyed 15 amazing years in Southern California ... I'm looking forward to this next phase of the World Challenge and what it can bring to Florida."

Next month will mark the final edition of the limited-field event at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The tournament has struggled to maintain title sponsorship in recent years, and Woods reportedly helped personally to cover the operating costs when the event was played without a title sponsor in 2012. Last year's presenting sponsor, Northwestern Mutual, has moved up to become title sponsor of this year's event, held Dec. 5-8. The 18-man field will feature 14 of the top 20 golfers in the latest world rankings, notably PGA champion Jason Dufner, defending World Challenge champion Graeme McDowell and Woods, who has won the event five
