Sergio Garcia’s spat with Tiger Woodswon’t affect his standing on the EuropeanRyder Cup team. On Sunday, 2014 captain Paul McGinley chalked up the incident to a “personality clash” and said there is “no big drama at all.”
McGinley is just the latest player to come to the defense of Garcia, who inflamed the recent saga by saying that he would serve “fried chicken” to Woods at the U.S. Open.
“I think there’s no doubt there’s a personality clash between the two and both have spoken about that,” the Irishman told BBC Radio. “Sergio apologized for his comments; he didn’t mean them in the way they came out.
“They don’t particularly like each others’ company, but they don’t have to live with each other, they don’t have to see each other every day. Normally on a golf course between two players, even if they are friends there’s not a lot of talk. For me, it’s no big drama at all.”
Garcia has played on six previous Ryder Cup teams (1999, ’02, ’04, ’06, ’08, ’12) and is a likely candidate for McGinley’s squad at Gleneagles.
