Having finished regulation at 16-under 268, Creamer and Shin were locked in an epic duel Sunday, having traded pars on the par-4 18th eight times in a row. They were unable to finish before darkness ended play on the River Course at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va. The LPGA record for playoff holes is 10.
"This is crazy,"said Creamer, vying for her first LPGA title since the 2010 U.S. Women's Open. We've played good golf, and I wanted to keep playing, but when I teed it up, it was a no-go.” Creamer took a one-stroke lead into the 18th hole in regulation, but three-putted the final green ?including a 5-foot miss for par ?to drop into the playoff.
Play will resume Monday at 9 a.m. ET on the 16th hole.
The Monday-morning finish is problematic for both players, as the Ricoh Women's British Open ?the LPGA's final major of the year ?begins Thursday across the pond at Royal Liverpool.
