Woods finds slippery bogey slope Sunday at Barclays

Tiger Woods in the 2012 Barclays

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. ?Bethpage Black was slippery for the second day in a row. But instead of the greens Sunday, it was the slippery slope Tiger Woods found himself headed down that took center stage in the final round.

Woods shot 5-over 76 at The Barclays Sunday for his worst final round of the year. He finished T-38 after a 72-hole total of 1-over-par 285, 11 shots behind winner Nick Watney.

He was inconsistent all day, but his troubles really compounded when he double-bogeyed the 12th hole and followed that double with three more bogeys over the next six holes.

Woods found only six of 14 fairways, six of 18 greens and needed 30 putts on the round.

His short game let him down ?his chipping was poor and his putter never got hot.

His front nine included three birdies, three bogeys and three pars and he made the turn even on the day, but once he three-putted the 12th for double-bogey, it was apparent he뭗 taken all the blows he could handle for the day. His magic had turned tragic and he was unable to turn things around. The three-putt at 12 was his only three-putt of the day.

The final two rounds of The Barclays mark yet another weekend Woods has failed to contend, although his weekend scoring average isn뭪 as poor as you would assume.

Heading into The Barclays, Woods?per-round scoring averages were as follows: Round 1, 70.10 (sixth on Tour); Round 2, 69.72 (fourth on Tour); Round 3, 70.50 (55th on Tour); Round 4, 70.36 (36th on Tour).

His performance is poorer on the weekends, yes, but he still averages under par Saturday and Sunday, although both Saturday and Sunday at Bethpage were over par.

Woods shot 68-69-72 in the first three rounds of The Barclays, the second-round 69 on a day when his lower back was giving him fits.

Woods is scheduled to play all three remaining FedEx Cup Playoff events. He entered the playoffs ranked No. 1 on the points list, but fell two spots to third, behind Nick Watney and Brandt Snedeker, respectively, after The Barclays.
