Royal Melbourne leaves Tseng in near tears

Royal Melbourne exacted severe punishment on the world’s best women Friday in the second round of the ISPS Women’s Australian Open.
How tough was it? World No. 1 Yani Tseng said she was almost in tears after making a snowman, a quadruple-bogey-8, at the seventh hole in the LPGA season opener.
After pulling her tee shot left, Tseng took an unplayable lie in deep grass. She still required three shots to get to the fairway. When she stepped over her sixth shot, she was still 93 yards away from the green.
“I almost cried,” Tseng said. “But, I didn’t. I hung in there.”
As bad as that was, Tseng wasn’t among the 49 players who shot 80 or higher in high winds. After a 41 on the front nine, Tseng bounced back impressively with a 35 on the back nine and stands tied for 10th at even par, just six shots behind the leader, So Yeon Ryu.
After opening with an 80, Suzann Pettersen bounced back with a 71 to make the cut.
“It feels like the British Open,” Hee Kyun Seo said.
