Tseng snubbed in AP athlete-of-year voting

A dozen worldwide wins and two major championships were not enough for Yani Tseng to be honored as the Associated Press’ female athlete of the year.
The award went to U.S. women's soccer standout Abby Wambach, who helped lead the American team to the final of the Women's World Cup, where they lost to Japan on penalty kicks. Wambach garnered 65 of 214 votes cast by American members of The Associated Press.
Wambach's teammate, U.S. goalie Hope Solo, was second with 38 votes. University of Connecticut basketball star Maya Moore finished third with 35 votes, leaving Tseng in fourth with 24 votes.
Golfers had won the award in five consecutive years from 2003-07. Annika Sorenstam won the first three years of that half-decade before Lorena Ochoa took the next two.
This is the second award over which Tseng was arguably snubbed. U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy was selected by Golf Magazine as its player of 2011, leading LPGA commissioner Mike Whan to write the publication to protest the result.
