Chinese customs holding Rory's trophy captive By Ryan Ballengee Dec 3, 2011 10:06 AM ET In the first test for Rory McIlroy's new representation, Horizon Sports Management is trying to regain his U.S. Open trophy from Chinese customs officials. The Ulsterman had been traveling with the trophy he won at Congressional during a six-event stint, beginning at the Shanghai Masters in October. The trophy was shipped to Lake Malaren, site of the event, for pick-up but no one was there to sign for it. "The trophy was shipped out in its special protective box to Shanghai ... but there was no one present at the course to receive it so it was taken back to the shipping agents' depot," said Conor Ridge of Horizon Sports, according to Reuters. "So I then got in contact with (tournament operator) IMG in order we could at least have the trophy on hand for the following week's HSBC Champions event ... but I was informed that China customs said they were now not releasing the trophy, and they still won't give it to us." Ridge has reached out to the USGA for some diplomatic assistance in getting the trophy released. McIlroy intends to bring it to next week's Dubai World Championship.
