World No. 1 Luke Donald told Golf Channel Tuesday that he is befuddled by the PGA Tour’s decision to delay Player-of-the-Year voting until after next week’s WGC-HSBC Champions event in China.
“I think the decision to add HSBC is sketchy at best. Why change the rule the day after Disney? It doesn’t really make sense to me,” Donald said on “Morning Drive.”

Money from the $7 million event does not count toward the Tour money list, but the win is officially recognized if a Tour member takes the top honor. The Tour decided to wait for the outcome before sending out ballots for players to vote.
Donald, however, feels the Tour has introduced a third end to the season.
.
“To be honest, everything needs to be simplified for the PGA Tour. There doesn’t seem to be a beginning and an end. You finish the FedEx Cup and you think the season’s over. Then you have the Fall Series and you think it’s over. Then they’re adding another event,” he said.
Donald has not committed to the Shanghai event as his wife, Diane, is close to giving birth to the couple’s second child. Even if he adds the tournament, Donald is not convinced that would be the end-all.
“I feel like if I even went to HSBC and won, they’d find another event to add,” he said.
