Round 1: THE PLAYERS May 12 2011 10:36 am Woods withdraws from PLAYERS PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. ?For the second straight year, Tiger Woods has had to withdraw from THE PLAYERS Championship. Woods played his first five holes in 5 over ?including a triple bogey at the fourth hole ?and was visibly limping as he shot 42 on the front nine. He is nursing a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee and a strained left Achilles tendon. Woods suffered the injury while hitting an awkward shot during the third round of the Masters and has not played since that tie for fourth. He was wearing a boot to stabilize and protect the leg at his Tiger Jam event last month. In 2010, Woods withdrew during the fourth round of THE PLAYERS due to a neck injury. Woods, who is revamping his swing under the watchful eye of Sean Foley, was making just his sixth start of the season at THE PLAYERS. He had two top-10s, including a tie for fourth at the Masters.
