이번 미국여행중 보고 느낀점들을 VANK 편집장에게 보낸 편지내용. Sat, 30 Apr 2005 14:55:22 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Who's the real Patriots of Korea,my mother land. To: "PRKOREA TIMES" Hi, Mr. Chang, It's here now Spring finally through the long tunnel of severe cold Canada winter. I got home from my Los Angeles trip with my wife for one month a few days ago. While staying there we toured many places that were historical sights, national parks and business community of Koreans there. Many koreans I met there gave me deep impression of real patriots of Korea comparing the situation of economically and politically in Korea that has made Koreans living abroad feel uncomfortable time to time. There was, as you may have known, korean community occupying one of busy street named Olympic BLVD in L.A. where local or international trades have been on with a lots of products from Korea that made Korea be known to American society and world too. For this jobs made possibe were native koreans who have worked so hard not only to survive but also with identity of koreans proudly. The most of koreans who has business on this street looks like making prosperity with pride of making Korea,the tiny land but images of hard working nation be known. One day our tour group stopped at the Song's restaurant in Barstow on the way to Las Vegas from L.A., taking lunch there. Not many Koreans living there,but the owner of restaurant has carried out business with Korean foods menu serving tourists, and stars stripes and korean flag are fluttering on top of the mast beside building. According to the tour guide peoples in city knows Korea well with good feelings and friendships keep continuing because of this restaurant. One day a tourist from Korea with her kid saw a young worker collecting garbages from garbage bins inside restaurant and mother pointing at him told her kid " why that young man works dirty job with less paycheque ?because of less hard work while in school,you know?", than that kid nodded with agreeing his mother's comment. Pretending not heard dialogue between two,young worker approached to them, saying to kid "you should work hard not to be a laborer like me while in school" using korean version with smiling on his face. They surprised at hearing those. He was the son of restaurant owner who has attended West Point military academy having good relationship with former Vice President Al Gore who suggested him to be in military academy, being told about him as one of best high school students at graduation. He was helping his parents at that time during a holiday. The mother of kid made judgement on him as cheap laborer seeing his work uniform he worn that was,I believe, a tendency of Korean society in korea still. I believe that many young guys like son of restaurant owner and businessmen I saw at korean community in L.A.et'c are the real patriots who haven't made any noise but doing with their actions with sincerity in mind that I am the Korean all the time first. Without these kind of real patriots' efforts there wouldn't be a Korea that world has known with good impression. Mr. Chang, I know you and your staffs are working so hard to keep the name of Korea shinny at the world stage also abreast with those mentioned above. I really enjoyed my tour of California this time seeing and touching unexpected facts that made me proud of being a descendent of my parents who were ordinary Korean. Many thanks. From Paul Lee.
