Sometimes, a struggling player just needs a shoulder to cry upon.
Or a player whose own struggles make empathy easier.
Apparently, Yani Tseng found that in Michelle Wie this week. They played a practice round together at the LPGA Safeway Classic at Pumpkin Ridge’s Ghost Creek Course.
“I’ve played a lot of golf with Michelle this year,” Tseng said in her pre-tournament interview. “I asked her if she has cried, like a few times this year. She said, `Of course.’”
Tseng understood.
“Me, too,” she told Wie.
Tseng, 23, is coming off consecutive missed cuts for the first time in her LPGA career. She has missed three of her last four cuts overall.
Wie, 22, missed six consecutive cuts earlier this year, five of them LPGA events. Like Tseng, she also missed the cut at the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic last week.
“We always learn a lot more from losing than winning,” Tseng said.
