With Yani Tseng taking the week off, Stacy Lewis has a chance to build on her lead in the LPGA's Rolex Player of the Year points race at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic.
Lewis, though, has some work to do after a sluggish start before rain delayed play late Thursday afternoon at Grey Silo Golf Course in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Lewis was 1 over through 12 holes and tied for 65th when play was suspended and eventually halted for the day.
While Tseng trails Lewis in Rolex POY points (123-120), Tseng continues to hold a giant advantage as No. 1 in the Rolex world rankings. Tseng has a 16.90 ranking average, more than double No. 2 Lewis (8.30). Tseng has a greater point advantage over Lewis than Lewis has over any other player in the world.
Lewis would need to win about seven or eight times this year with Tseng cooling off just to challenge Tseng for the top ranking.
The Rolex POY race is another matter as Lewis bids to become the first American since Beth Daniel in 1994 to win that honor.
