Honda LPGA Thailand 2007 Siam Country Club, Pattaya Old Course Chonburi, Thailand Oct. 28, 2007 Final-round interviews: Suzann Pettersen | Laura Davies | Paula Creamer Final-round notes Pettersen hangs on for fifth-career win at Honda LPGA Thailand 2007 CHONBURI, Thailand, Oct. 28, 2007 – Suzann Pettersen went wire-to-wire to win her fifth LPGA Tour event of the season—and career—at the Honda LPGA Thailand 2007. If only wire-to-wire meant smooth sailing. It appeared there was no way Pettersen (65-68-63-71=267, -21) could avoid cashing the $195,000 winner's check after she fired a third-round 9-under-par 63 to hold a seven-stroke, 54-hole lead at 196 (-20) over Laura Davies (71-66-66-65=268, -20). But Davies was persistent in her quest for Tour victory number 21. She was bogey-free between the eighth hole of the second round and the 16th hole of the final round. In the final round, Pettersen posted a 1-over-par 37 on the front nine, while Davies started the round eagle-birdie and added another birdie on the par-5, seventh to turn at 4-under-par on the day, 17-under-par for the tournament. Another birdie on the 10th, and Davies was within one stroke of Pettersen. Pettersen carded a birdie on the 11th, but Davies would go on to outscore Pettersen 1-under to 1-over on holes 12 through 17 to be tied at 19-under-par. On 18, both players nailed their drives and hit the green in two. Davies barely missed her 25-foot eagle putt and birdied the hole, while Pettersen's grip 3-wood from 225 yards landed to within 15 feet of the hole for the eagle putt, which sealed the win. Davies, Jang cross career-earnings marks. Laura Davies' second-place $125,514 check (71-66-66-65=268, -20) made her just the ninth player in LPGA Tour history to surpass $8 million in career earnings with $8,116,126 in 20 years on Tour. Meanwhile, a tied for 26th performance by Jeong Jang (76-69-70-70=285 (-3) was worth $12,885 and was just enough for Jang to pass the $5 million tier in career earnings ($5,001,904). Jang ranks 25th all-time on the LPGA Official Career Earnings List. Davies, Hetherington jump in ADT Points. With runner-up and fourth-place finishes, respectively, Laura Davies (71-66-66-65=268, -20) and Rachel Hetherington (69-70-68-65=272, -16) made the moves of the week during the final homestretch of the second half of the LPGA Playoffs 2007. Davies entered the Honda LPGA Thailand 2007 ranked 17th with 169,834 second half ADT Points, while Hetherington was 15th with 178,558 ADT Points. Davies earned 125,514 ADT Points and now has 295,348 ADT Points, while Hetherington's 70,436 ADT Points boost her overall total to 248,994 ADT Points. Since Seon Hwa Lee (HSBC Women's World Match Play Championship) and Natalie Gulbis (Evian Masters) were the only two second half automatic qualifiers via Winner Events—the other three were won by Cristie Kerr and Lorena Ochoa who had already qualified via first half ADT Points—there are 13 positions open to second half ADT Points. The top ADT Points' earners will gain entry into the $1 million-to-the-winner ADT Championship upon the completion of The Mitchell Company Tournament of Champions, Nov. 8-11 in Mobile, Ala. Davies leads Tour in eagles. Davies was bogey-free from the eighth hole of the second round until the 16th hole of the final round. On the tournament, she carded three eagles—twice on the first hole in the second and final rounds, another in the second round on the 18th—for a to-date 14 on the season, which now leads the Tour. Pat Hurst and Lorena Ochoa are tied for second with 12 each. Hetherington makes final-round charge. Rachel Hetherington, of Australia, set a season-low nine-hole mark for herself at the Honda LPGA Thailand 2007 by carding a blazing five birdies in the first six holes. Her 5-under-par 31 is a best for Hetherington on nine holes. She birdied the 10th and 15th holes on the back nine to finish the day bogey-free with a new season-low 7-under-par 65. Overall, Hetherington's four-day 69-70-68-65=272 (-16) was good enough for fourth place and her fifth top-10 finish in 24 starts this season. Sharp earns career-best finish. Canadian Alena Sharp has thrived in the heat at the Honda LPGA Thailand 2007. She was two-strokes behind leader Suzann Pettersen for the first two rounds of the event. Her worst round of the event was an even par 72 during Saturday's third round, but she rebounded with a 2-under-par 70 in the final round to post a career-best seventh-place finish with four days of 67-68-72-70=277 (-11). It is the second top-10 finish this season, for Sharp, a three-year Tour member. Jutanugarn ties for 51st. Ariya Jutanugarn (a-REE-ya Ju-tah-noo-gahn), the Thai amateur who is the youngest player to qualify for an LPGA Tour event, finished tied for 51st among the 59-player field at the Honda LPGA Thailand 2007. She finished her LPGA debut with a score of 75-74-74-74=297 (+9). Jutanugarn was 11 years, 11 months and 2 days when she started Thursday's first round, eclipsing the previous mark set by Michelle Wie who qualified for the 2002 LPGA Takefuji Classic at the age of 12 years, 4 months and 14 days. Han tied for 11th in LPGA return. Hee-Won Han, the defending champion of the Honda LPGA Thailand 2007, returned to the LPGA Tour last week for the first time since competing at the Kraft Nabisco Championship April 1, 2007. In between, she gave birth to a son in the summer, but came back strong with a four-day 69-70-72-70=281 (-7) performance to finish tied for 11th. Kim, Prammanasudh find aces in third round. Christina Kim posted her fourth-career hole-in-one during Saturday's third round of the Honda LPGA Thailand 2007. Shortly after, Stacy Prammanasudh—an Oklahoma-resident with Thai heritage—carded her first LPGA Tour hole-in-one. Each player sank her tee shot on the 137-yard eighth hole using an 8-iron. They are the 18th and 19th holes-in-one on Tour this season. Both women were members of the 2003 LPGA Tour rookie class and are two-time Tour winners, with Prammanasudh winning the Fields Open in Hawaii earlier this year. For Kim, she has recorded a hole in one each year since 2004. DQ: Jennifer Rosales was a DQ from the 60-player field of the Honda LPGA Thailand 2007 in the third round for an unsigned scorecard.
