D'Alessio shot a 68, while Hong had four birdies and two bogeys in her round of 70 as both totaled 7-under 137. They were followed by Annika Sorenstam of Sweden (69), Jang Jeong of South Korea (71) and Brittany Lincicome of the United States (74). "I played pretty solidly and hit the ball well," said D'Alessio, who birdied the first, fifth, 11th and 15th holes in her first Evian tournament. "I missed from 4 feet at the last because I hit the putt through the break. The greens are quite tricky." Hong said she was not nervous and hoped to keep under control through to Sunday. "I want to make it right. I want to play on the weekend really, really well," she said. Juli Inkster of the United States, who won in 2003, shot five birdies in the first seven holes for a 68 to be in a large group at 141. The group included Laura Davies, champion in 1995 and 1996, and Momoko Ueda of Japan. Davies three-putted the last hole for a 70, while Ueda had seven birdies in a 67, the best score of the day. Karrie Webb, the defending champion from Australia, was 2-under 142 after a 72. Lorena Ochoa from Mexico was also at 2 under after she shot a 70.
