Furyk Passes Mickleson in World Rankings
By Sports Network - September 11, 2006
Jim Furyk won the Canadian Open on Sunday for his second title this season, a victory that moved him up one place to a career-best No. 2 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Players have jockeyed for position behind No. 1 Tiger Woods all year, but there is no challenging him for the top spot. His lead on Furyk is nearly 14 average points.
Furyk, meanwhile, supplanted Phil Mickelson in the No. 2 spot. Vijay Singh remained fourth and Adam Scott advanced one place to fifth after winning the Singapore Open, bumping Retief Goosen to sixth.
Ernie Els and Sergio Garcia were seventh and eighth again, while Geoff Ogilvy moved up to ninth, dropping Luke Donald to 10th.
It was a pattern that played out all over the top 20. Henrik Stenson and David Howell remained 11th and 12th, then Trevor Immelman claimed the 13th spot from David Toms, who slipped to 14th.
Chris DiMarco also bumped Colin Montgomerie from 15th to 16th.
After that Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal, Tim Clark and Chad Campbell held onto places 17-20.
