FUTURES GOLF TOUR ANNOUNCES AWARD RECIPIENTS

LAKELAND, Fla., February 3, 2005 -- The FUTURES Golf Tour will honor the 2004 recipients of its annual awards in March during the Tour's first tournament of the 2005 season in its hometown of Lakeland, Fla. The 2004 recipients of the Heather Wilbur Spirit Award and the Trainor Award are Lindsey Wright of Albury, Australia, and the entire tournament organizing committees for the past 20 years at the Decatur, Ill., tournament (1985 - 2004), respectively. These recipients will be honored March 13, following the Lakeland FUTURES Golf Classic's trophy presentation at Cleveland Heights Golf Course. The Heather Wilbur Spirit Award is presented to a FUTURES Tour player who best exemplifies dedication, courage, perseverance, love of the game and spirit toward achieving goals as a professional golfer. The award was established in memory of former four-year FUTURES Tour member Heather Wilbur, a Canadian from New Brunswick, who lost an 11-month battle to Acute Myelogenic Leukemia (AML) in 2003. Wright, nominated by her fellow FUTURES Tour players, won twice in 2004 and finished second on the Tour's Money List, earning automatic exempt LPGA Tour status for 2005. But in the eyes of her peers, she also was interested in the professional progress of others around her -- a trait exemplified by the award's namesake. "There have been numerous situations, like when she shot a 64 in the final round in Avon [Conn.], that Lindsey called me after her round to see how I had finished and I had no idea what she had just accomplished," said Kim Adams, a member of the FUTURES Tour, who grew up playing junior golf in New Brunswick with Heather Wilbur. "Lindsey puts family and friends in front of any golf game or tournament -- the same as Heather did -- while still having the goal to get to the LPGA." "Lindsey is always concerned about the welfare of her fellow playing partners and competitors, which is a rare quality among golfers," said Australian Kylie Pratt, another FUTURES Tour member. FUTURES Tour President and Chief Executive Officer added, "It takes more than playing good golf to be successful. The player who can balance performance with other attributes, including social graces, respect for peers and a desire to represent their sport, embodies the characteristics for the Heather Wilbur Spirit Award. That is Lindsey Wright, and I am delighted she's the 2004 recipient of this award." The FUTURES Golf Tour established the Trainor Award in 1999, in honor of the Tour's founder and former president, Eloise Trainor, who retired in 1999. In the spirit of the tenacious and dedicated founder who operated the FUTURES Tour for 20 years, the annual Trainor Award is presented to an individual or group that has made a significant contribution to women's golf. The Decatur tournament, now called the Michelob ULTRA FUTURES Charity Golf Classic, is the longest-running event on the FUTURES Tour schedule, having been held since 1985. In its 20th anniversary year (2004), the FUTURES Tour will honor each of the organizing committees in Decatur over the last two decades that have contributed to the success of the tournament with the Trainor Award. Organizing their event since 1985, these individuals are being recognized for their contributions and success of bringing women's professional golf to their community and making it a mainstay year after year. "What a perfect match to have the Decatur tournament committees win the Trainor Award," said Calderon. "When Eloise Trainor created the Tour, she had two constituencies in mind -- the players and the communities -- and, like Eloise, the Decatur tournament organizers care about both. They've made their event a 'must do' on the community's calendar every summer, and in longevity and commitment, they have become to the FUTURES Tour what the John Deere tournament is to the PGA Tour, and the McDonald's tournament is to the LPGA Tour." Celebrating 25 competitive seasons in 2005, the FUTURES Golf Tour has remained committed to developing the skills and dreams of women golfers, establishing role models for youth and creating LPGA stars of tomorrow. With more than 240 alumnae as current members of the LPGA Tour, former FUTURES Tour players have won a total of 283 LPGA titles, including 30 major championships through 2004. Designated as "the official developmental tour of the LPGA," the FUTURES Golf Tour has become the largest international developmental tour and the second largest women's golf tour in the world. At season's end each year, the top five players on the Tour's Money List earn automatic LPGA Tour exemptions for the following year. Throughout its first quarter century, membership has increased from approximately 150 North American players to more than 300 players from 27 different nations. The Tour now conducts 18 tournaments in 13 states and has raised more than $3.2 million for charitable organizations since 1989. For more information, please visit www.futurestour.com.
