Woods Ties Lehman Before Play Suspended By Sports Network - January 22, 2005 SAN DIEGO -- Tiger Woods birdied two of the first five holes of his third round Saturday to tie Tom Lehman atop the leaderboard during the third round of the Buick Invitational. Lehman is 1 over through four holes as fog has hindered the event since Friday. Two fog delays Saturday led to play being suspended due to darkness. Fog twice delayed play on Saturday, leading to a suspension of Round 3The 81 players that made the cut will return to the South Course at Torrey Pines Golf Club to complete their third rounds at 10:30 a.m. ET Sunday with the final round commencing after the conclusion of round three. Woods, who is playing alongside Lehman, got off to a hot start as he rolled in a birdie putt at the par-4 10th. He came right back at 11 where he holed out from a bunker for birdie at the par-3. Woods, a three-time winner here, parred his next two holes. After he found the fairway off the 14th tee, the horn sounded to halt play for the night. Woods, however, elected to complete the hole as is his option and picked up a par there. Lehman, the U.S. Ryder Cup captain, opened with back-to-back pars as his group opened on the back nine on the South Course. The 1996 British Open Champion stumbled to a bogey at the par-4 12th. Lehman, who matched Lennie Clements' 36-hole scoring record of 129, came back to par the par-5 13th. The horn sounded before he could tee off the 14th, so he will return to that tee Sunday morning to continue his round. Peter Lonard and Luke Donald, who lost a playoff to John Daly last year, share third place at 11 under par. Each player has completed five holes with Lonard playing those holes in 1 over, while Donald has picked up a pair of birdies over his five holes. World No. 3 Ernie Els is also 2 under through five holes. Those two birdies moved him into a share of fifth place at minus-10. He was joined there by Dudley Hart and Kevin Sutherland, both of whom have also completed five holes. Charles Howell III collected four birdies over his nine holes to jump to 9 under par and a share of eighth place. He was joined there by Aaron Baddeley and Arron Oberholser. World No. 1 Vijay Singh collected four birdies over his 12 holes to move up to 8 under par. Fredrik Jacobson and Bernhard Langer, the victorious 2004 European Ryder Cup captain, are also minus-8 through seven holes. Scott Hend (six holes) and Pat Perez (five) also stand at 8 under. Phil Mickelson, who is making his 2005 season debut, has struggled badly in the third round and is 4 over through 11 holes. He has slipped to a share of 62nd place at minus-1. Daly, the defending champion, is also at 1 under par through eight holes of his third round.
