Hi, Mr. Stephen, It's my only choice to write a letter to you to let you know the facts faced to all.
I am a member of conservative party, aged 59 with ID number 11480482 for year 2005 who has retired one year ago, even I could still work as convenience store owner, but I quit the self employeed job because I didn't want to be targeted to be killed by crimes of robbery for nothing.
I loved my job that continued for 20 years,of course I used to be in other businesses for 10 years before. That means I have lived for 30 years in Canada so far, working so hard to raise family.
In Canada there have been too many robberies at convenience stores every day and night.
Being robbed means lost all the money for full days work from early morning to late evening.
Since robberies are happened at the counter at store, we as store operators defy it distinctively and naturally against robbers.
In that case wooden hearted robbers with weapons on hands fire on to counter operators who
then lose life or paralysed. The most of store operators are first generation immigrants who have not only more difficulties to learn culture and english et'c but only choice to do that to live in Canada, leaving their specialties behind.
As a meaning of self-defence, some operators keep a baseball bat under counter. But usually being advised by cops 'don't do it,but report to police'. From their view it's simple advise for their sake.
Nowadays as you may have known, the price of tobaco products are so expensive due to taxes on.
So crimes of robbery think tobaco products are like cash, so which they use weapons like pistols, rifles to carry out their goals, I mean rebberies, some cases killing involved.
Because of this brutal happenings, insurance companies have selected their insurance buyers which have made store owners difficult to buy insurance, paying higher premiums with less coverages.
When break-ins happens at store with cigarettes cartons stolen, coverages from insurance claims are peanuts because of caps applied at the time of purchase by insurance company for coverage. Knowing that we have to buy because of government regulations.
Day and night operating convenience business is real big pain for store owners fearing robberies.
On top break-ins happens during the night time close, with being taken tobaco products by crimes, means lose property which can not be covered by insurance,as I mentioned earlier, which happens every night, especially at large cities like Toronto. Nowadays trends of robbery are so often since
economy at the field is too bad which makes robbers target on convenience stores or much simillar retail cash business industry.
I suggest you to make a bill with strong anti crime protection clauses in it including capital punishment, if possible, and legislate it before too late.
The sooner the better, I believe. To feel of those big social problems you should be in a store during the late evening one day. I had so many experiences of those robberies with life threatenings sometimes which was main reason I quit from it. This year severeal my friends running stores in Toronto area got disabled or killed from robbery hold-ups for nothing. Their dreams have scattered and destroyed family too that never can get back to normal life for the rest.
Captured robbers are back to street after a few years of jail service that is Canadian law enforcement, I have heard of.
Legislating this strong anti crime act, we as conservatives can get more vote from the voters who's in this business and their family members too in coming elections, I am pretty sure.
In Ontario only, we have more than 4 thousand korean store owners that I belong to and more than 20 thousand simillar convenience stores from other communities, I believe.
Please this time listen deeply to this and act now, Stephen, Many thanks.
Paul H Lee.
