Mayor Park Won-soon found dead

at the foot of Mt. Bukak

Police, find me after midnight...There's no sign of murder.

Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon was found dead near Sukjeongmun Gate on Mount Bukak in Seoul early Thursday morning.

Mayor Park left his official residence in Gahoe-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul at 10:44 a.m. on Tuesday. Later, when her daughter was unable to reach Mayor Park, she called 112 at 5:17 p.m. and reported, "4 to 5 hours ago, my father left the house with strange words like a will, and now the phone is off." Police and fire authorities launched a massive search and found Mayor Park. A police official said, "It is true that Mayor Park himself was found dead."

According to the police, Mayor Park headed to Waryong Park in Jongno-gu, Seoul after leaving the official residence. At 10:53 a.m., CCTV footage in Waryong Park showed Mayor Park. According to police's inquiry into Mayor Park's phone records and location, Mayor Park talked to his acquaintance at Waryong Park at 2:42 p.m., and the signal for his location was cut off at around 4 p.m. at the Bukak Golf Training Center on Mount Bukak in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul.

Cineplex sues former buyer Cineworld, seeking over $2.18 billion in damages..

Cineplex sues former buyer Cineworld, seeking over

$2.18 billion in damages..

Cineplex Inc. has filed a lawsuit against its former suitor Cineworld Group PLC, seeking damages in excess of $2.18 billion in the wake of the U.K. company’s failed acquisition.

The Canadian movie theatre chain filed the suit in Ontario Superior Court on Friday, detailing what it claims was “a case of buyer’s remorse” on the part of the U.K. company in the middle of a pandemic.

Cineworld walked away from the $2.8 billion deal on June 12, saying it had become aware of a material adverse effect and breaches by the Toronto-based company.

Cineplex, which says it complied with its obligations under the agreement and vowed to “vigorously defend any allegation to the contrary,” is seeking damages that cover the acquisition value as well as $664 million in debt Cineworld would have taken on had the deal successfully closed.

It also wants Cineworld to repay certain “benefits” it received as part of the transaction.

A representative for Cineworld was not immediately available for comment.

Heat warning issued for Toronto, GTA

Heat warning issued for Toronto, GTA...

Environment Canada issued a heat warning for the City of Toronto and much of the Greater Toronto Area Wednesday.

“A long-duration heat event is expected Thursday through Sunday, and potentially into early next week,” Environment Canada (EC) said on their website Wednesday afternoon. “Daytime high temperatures in the low 30s with overnight lows near 20 C are expected.”

The warning covers most of the Golden Horsehoe including Halton, Peel, York, Durham, Niagara, and the City of Hamilton, the national weather agency said.

City of Toronto to open cooling centres Thursday

In response to the expected hot weather, the City of Toronto said they will be opening 15 emergency cooling centres on Thursday.

The centres will open their doors at 11 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m. The Metro Hall location at 55 John Street will be open 24 hours, the city said.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, staff will be screening people before they enter the centres, the city said.

“Emergency Cooling Centre staff will screen all visitors and accommodate those who are required to self-isolate in an alternate space separate from the main Emergency Cooling Centre area,” a city news release said.
